“Last night, I was approached by a policeman. They pulled guns on me assuming I had a gun and drugs (screaming ‘where’s your gun?’),” the tweet read. “I was violated numerous times even as going as far as trying to unzip my pants in search of a weapon that I repeatedly told them I did not have.”
CBS reports that the officers also questioned Moore about being in possession of illegal drugs, and Moore stated that they confiscated his phone when he attempted to record the incident.
Moore was not arrested, and three officers have been placed under paid administrative leave following the incident.
LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron confirmed during a press conference that he spoke with Moore and Moore’s mother and brother to understand what happened between Moore and the police. Orgeron also thanked Baton Rouge Chief of Police Murphy Paul for investigating the situation and intends to let law enforcement handle the incident.
“We do everything to support Koy and his family,” he said. “There is no place in America for racism and social injustice.”
In his post, Moore mentioned that while people are celebrating the historic victory of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, who will serve as the nation’s first female vice president and female vice president of color, systemic racism is still deeply entrenched in society.
“If I didn’t tell those incompetent officers that I was an LSU football player, there’s no telling if I wouldn’t been here to tell the story,” Moore added.
Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome (D) also weighed in on the incident, saying that her office has been made aware of the situation and is in touch with both Moore and the police department.
“We take these allegations seriously and will await the findings of the investigation,” she wrote online. “We will get to the bottom of this situation and keep the lines of communication open with the community.”
