Police in Ohio were called on Tuesday afternoon to respond to an attempted stabbing. City officials released bodycam footage of the scene, in which a group of girls can be seen in a physical altercation. One girl, identified as Bryant, appears to have a knife and brandishes it at another girl when the officer shoots her.

However, Bryant’s family stated that Bryant lives in a foster home and had gotten into an altercation with other girls there and only brandished the knife to protect herself.

Columbus Public Safety Director Ned Pettus Jr. asked for peace and patience as the investigation unfolds.

“She could be my grandchild,” said Pettus. “In any way you look at this, it’s a tragedy.”
