“Earlier today Orthodox Jews were harassed in front of this Shul on 16th Avenue by a group of males yelling ‘Free Palestine – kill all the Jews,” Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein tweeted.
“We are hearing of multiple similar incidents that occurred over Shabbos. These perpetrators must be brought to justice,” he added.
Authorities said they believe the same group of men is suspected of attacking two Jewish teenagers with a baseball bat.
The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating both incidents.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) met with police and Jewish community leaders following the incidents.
“The attacks we saw in Brooklyn last night were unconscionable. They were pure, unbridled antisemitism. And we do not need to look far back in history to know what happens if we let that hatred go unchecked,” he said.
“The perpetrators will be brought to justice,” he continued.
The incidents come as the U.S. and other countries have seen an uptick in antisemitic attacks following the recent conflict between Israel and militants in the Gaza strip.
