Running eerily parallel to protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in the late spring and early summer of 2020, fresh demonstrations took place in the Minnesota city on Thursday following the police shooting of a suspect.
Reuters chronicles a small protest that was catalyzed by the shooting of a felon wanted on a state arrest warrant on a gun possession charge. A team of U.S. Marshals reportedly pursued and ultimately fatally shot the suspect.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department said the suspect was armed.

“During the incident, the subject, who was in a parked car, failed to comply and produced a handgun resulting in task force members firing upon the subject,” the department said in a statement. The agency also confirmed a woman was in the car along with the suspect, and survived the encounter with minor injuries.
Paramedics were reportedly called to the scene following the shooting, but the suspect was declared dead upon their arrival.
Local outlet KSTP reported about 10 gunshots were heard by witnesses.
