A statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, which was removed from Dallas four years ago, is now on display at a private Texas resort.
The statue of Lee was removed from a Dallas park in 2017 following the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., which led to a car attack that injured 35 people and killed 32-year-old Heather Heyer.
In 2019, the Dallas statue was auctioned off for $1.4 million, and it now stands in the 27,000-acre Lajitas Golf Resort in Terlingua, Texas.
“I would say that of the 60-plus-thousand guests we host each year, we’ve had one or two negative comments,” resort manager Scott Beasley told the Houston Chronicle, adding that the statue is “a fabulous piece of art.”

Another statue of Lee was removed from Richmond, Va. in September 2021.
On Oct. 14, a newly-published study found a correlation between the location of Confederate monuments and the number of lynchings the area had.
According to the University of Virginia study published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, counties in once-Confederate states with numerous Confederate monuments and memorials were also discovered to have had more lynchings. The study didn’t include data on Confederate monuments and lynchings in states that weren’t once part of the Confederacy.
