A man punched a Connecticut school board member in the face after a disagreement about the renaming of a school mascot escalated during a Tuesday night meeting.
In 2020, Glastonbury High School changed its mascot name from the Tomahawks to the Guardians, according to NBC Connecticut, in order to be racially sensitive. But some members of the community signed a petition to have the name switched back to its Native American themed moniker.
A special school board meeting was held Tuesday night in the Glastonbury High School auditorium to discuss a potential name change for the mascot which turned violent after the meeting closed for a 10-minute break, according to the Hartford Courant.

Video footage of the meeting shows a man speaking to board member Ray McFall during the break and then punching him in the cheek. Glastonbury police investigated the event at the board meeting that night, the Hartford Courant reported, but no arrests have been made.
