Bears, other wildlife take over abandoned Tahoe resort town to flee raging fires

As thousands of residents and tourists evacuate Lake Tahoe to escape the encroaching wildfires, fleeing bears and other wildlife are taking over the abandoned resort town.

Images taken by California’s RMG News show bears wandering through the empty town, salvaging through dumpsters and resting in abandoned areas typically inundated with visitors. 

RMG News footage, shared with the New York Post, even includes a coyote eating in an empty street.

The raging Caldor Fire has pushed wildlife out of their more isolated habitats as they flee the flames and go searching for food and shelter in other areas. 

The Caldor Fire has burned 210,259 acres and is 25 percent contained on its perimeter.
