The Mariposa County Sheriff is expected to announce the cause of death for a California family and their dog on Thursday.

In August, a California family — John Gerrish, Ellen Chung and their 1-year-old daughter Miju — and their dog were found in a remote area near Devil’s Gulch in the Sierra National Forest. There were no signs of foul play, and the scene was initially treated as a hazmat scene because there were no clear causes of death.

The initial autopsies and the dog’s necropsy were deemed inconclusive, and the medical examiner’s office had been waiting on toxicology reports. At the time the family was found, the Sierra National Forest had had toxic algae bloom warnings posted in the area the bodies were discovered since mid-July.

“We know the family and friends of John and Ellen are desperate for answers, our team of detectives are working round the clock,” Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese said at the time. “Cases like this require us to be methodical and thorough while also reaching out to every resource we can find to help us bring those answers to them as quickly as we can.”

The exact time for Thursday’s press conference hasn’t been announced at this time.
