A drone operation has been called off after a mysterious gang beat the company in rescuing three dogs trapped by the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma.
A video of the site where the dogs were stuck showed no sign of the dogs, instead a large sign in its place in Spanish that translates to, “Stay strong La Palma! The dogs are fine,” signed by “the A-Team.”
A drone operator had been granted permission to attempt to rescue the three emaciated dogs after locating them. The operator used drones to feed the dogs in the interim by dropping bags of food to them.

However, the mysterious A-Team has beaten the drone operator to it.
“We’ve seen the video and we’ve confirmed it’s real, like the footprints we found yesterday,” Jaime Pereira, the chief executive of Aerocamaras, said Thursday, according to The Guardian.
It is unknown who the A-Team are and how they managed to rescue the dogs, as the area is currently designated an exclusion zone due to the dangers of the eruption, making accessing the site illegal. The dogs’ current whereabouts haven’t been revealed.
The drone operator’s plan to rescue the dogs was like something conceived in the movies. The rescue mission would have involved sending a 110-pound drone outfitted with a large net over to trap each dog, one by one, and flying them 450 meters, or about a quarter mile, over flowing lava to safety. The drone operator would have only had four minutes to lure the dog into the net and an additional four minutes to fly them out.
However, Pereira emphasized that the most important thing remains that the dogs have been rescued.
“The main thing is that, one way or another, the dogs have got out,” Pereira said.
