A deer frantically ran into a hospital in Louisiana in the middle of the day on Monday, taking health care workers and patients by surprise.

Surveillance video released by Our Lady of the Lake, a nonprofit hospital in Baton Rouge, La., showed a small deer running towards the hospital and sprinting through a set of double doors.

The 4-month-old doe managed to get onto hospital escalators and got off on the second floor, where the animal was eventually captured. Our Lady of the Lake confirmed that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries responded to the rogue deer.

According to local media, the deer was likely hit by a car before it arrived at the hospital. The animal was presumed to have wandered in from a nearby creek.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also confirmed that the deer suffered severe injuries to its sinuses and had to be euthanized. In a video posted to Twitter, hospital workers and animal rescue officials can be seen maneuvering the deer from a hospital gurney onto the back of a pickup truck.

“The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Department responded promptly, helping to remove the animal. Patient care has not been interrupted and the area is being thoroughly sanitized,” said Our Lady of the Lake hospital in a statement, according to The New York Post.
