A deputy pulled alongside the vehicle and saw the driver’s head was down and not looking at the road.
“The deputy initiated a traffic stop activating his lights and siren. The deputy advised that the driver was not pulling over as he followed behind it for approximately 2 miles at 82 mph through Kenosha County,” authorities said.
The driver eventually realized he was being pulled over and stopped the vehicle.
He denied he was asleep, but told the deputy he was tired. The 38-year-old man was issued a traffic citation for inattentive driving.
Tesla’s semi-autonomous Autopilot feature has been linked to several recent traffic incidents and collisions.
Last week in Washington state, a Tesla with the Autopilot feature enabled crashed into a police officer’s vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of a road.
At least three people have died in crashes involving Autopilot in the U.S., according to The Associated Press.
While Tesla’s Autopilot feature allows the car to brake and change lanes automatically, the electric carmaker has emphasized it is not fully autonomous and requires an attentive driver behind the wheel.
