An apartment building in Miami Beach is being vacated as Miami-Dade County officials take a closer look at structures after the deadly Surfside building collapse.
NBC 6 South Florida reported the city ordered an evacuation of the building after inspectors discovered evidence of concrete deterioration.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava ordered audits of buildings 40 years or older following last month’s partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South building that killed at least 94 people. Twenty-two people are still unaccounted for. An investigation into what caused the building to fall is ongoing, but a 2018 report found the building had major structural damage.
City of Miami Beach officials posted an evacuation notice for the building Monday, notifying residents the property needs to be vacated by July 19.

An attorney representing the building’s owners told NBC 6 South Florida the building is set to be demolished in December.
“Since May the tenancy has been reduced from 28 to now 14 of which 7 are not paying rent and 5 are presently in the process of vacating. We were notified that the city will be posting a notice to vacate the property today,” attorney Manny Vadillo told the outlet.
“The demolition of the building will take place in December and a new townhouse project is in the process of being planned for the site,” he said.
