“When tomorrow’s vaccine and vaccination numbers come out, it will show that today we did it. Today we hit 200 million shots in the 92nd day in office,” Biden said while addressing the nation Wednesday.
“This is an American achievement; a powerful demonstration of unity and resolve — what unity will do for us; and a reminder of what we can accomplish when we pull together as one people to a common goal,” Biden said.
Biden said that more than 80 percent of Americans 65 and older will have been partially or fully vaccinated by Thursday, and more than half of all U.S. adults have received at least one shot of a two-dose vaccine.
On Monday, everyone 16 and over in every state and territory became eligible to get vaccinated.
“To Americans 16 years and older, it’s your turn now. So go get your vaccine before the end of May,” he said.
Biden also unveiled a new tax credit for small businesses offering time off to employees to get inoculated and recover from any potential side effects. It’s paid for through the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package passed last month. The credit would provide up to $511 per day per employee for businesses with less than 500 workers.
“Every employee should get paid leave to get a shot, and businesses should know that they can provide it without a hit to their bottom line,” the president said.
