A pair of travelers from California are now facing charges for allegedly falsifying negative COVID-19 test results to enter Hawaii and circumvent the state’s travel quarantine requirements, according to local authorities.
The Kaua’i Police Department said Lazar Hayward Jr., 34, and Raven Randle, 33, uploaded fake negative COVID-19 test results into the website that tracks testing and vaccination status of visitors traveling to the islands and landed in Lihue on a direct flight.
Hawaii requires visitors to self-quarantine for 10 days unless they are fully vaccinated or test negative for COVID-19.

Police say the fake documents were flagged by the Safe Travels application and the two were taken into custody on Tuesday and charged for unsworn falsification.
Both suspects were released pending investigation and taken to the Lihue Airport where they were put on a direct flight back to Los Angeles.
The incident in Hawaii comes after a 24-year-old Illinois woman recently made headlines after allegedly attempting to use a fraudulent vaccination card to visit the islands and avoid the 10-day quarantine. Authorities said the woman uploaded a false vaccination card that misspelled Moderna as “Maderna.”
