The late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek delivered a heartfelt message on Monday night’s show, urging viewers to open their hearts to the millions of Americans affected by the coronavirus .

Trebek died at the age of 80 on Nov. 8, more than a year after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The episode was taped in October.
“You’ll recall about a month ago, I asked all of you to take a moment to give thanks for all of the blessings that you enjoy in your lives,” Trebek said. “Now, today, a different kind of message. This is the season of giving. I know you want to be generous with your family, your friends, your loved ones,” he said.

“But today, I’d like you to go one step further. I’d like you to open up your hands and open up your hearts to those who are still suffering because of COVID-19. People who are suffering through no fault of their own,” he said. “We’re trying to build a gentler, kinder society and if we all pitch in, just a little bit, we’re gonna get there.”
Monday’s episode ended with a dedication to Trebek who hosted the classic game show for nearly four decades that read, “Forever in our hearts, always our inspiration.”
Trebek’s final episode is set to air Friday with a tribute to the late TV host.
“Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards told the “Today” show he was surprised by Trebek’s comments as the host had just undergone surgery days earlier.
“He comes out and gives this absolutely amazing speech about the tough times that we’re in and the importance of us as a country, as a community, as humanity, coming together and being there for each other,” Richards said.
The executive producer said that no one knew these episodes would be Trebek’s last.
