As states like New York, Connecticut and New Jersey order the closure of restaurants to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, some food and beverage franchises have taken the initiative to limit crowding in their restaurants.

Earlier this week, Starbucks announced it would be temporarily shifting to a mobile and drive-thru order model to reduce social contact.

Now, fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A is adopting similar measures.

In a press release issued yesterday, the franchise said it will temporarily close its dining room seating areas to abide by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendation of social distancing.

“Our highest priority continues to be the health and well-being of everyone who comes into our restaurants. […] Some of our restaurants may only offer service through our drive-thrus, while others may be able to offer takeout, delivery or mobile order options,” the company expanded in the prepared statement.

Chick-fil-A had taken gradual steps to make restaurant operations safer amid the COVID-19 pandemic, including closing play areas for children to focus on hygienic efforts.

Other chain restaurants have adopted new measures to limit exposure to the virus. Until the end of March, Chipotle will offer free deliveries on orders $10 and above and seal foods during the delivery process, according to reports. Taco Bell announced that as of Sunday evening, it will serve guests through the drive-thru or delivery “only where necessary,” and Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) will pay for the delivery of its food when ordered through KFC.com, Seamless or GrubHub until April 26, as listed by Good Housekeeping

Companies that have not taken stringent health precautions against COVID-19 include Panera, McDonalds, Five Guys, Arby’s and more.
