New restrictions are being issued in New York state in the latest effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Wednesday announced any establishment with a state liquor license, including bars and restaurants, must close indoor areas by 10 p.m. starting Friday. Gyms will also be required to close at that time. Curbside food pickup can continue past the 10 p.m. curfew.

Cuomo said the restrictions have been issued as significant surges of infections have been linked to bars, gyms and private gatherings.
NYS is taking action to stop the spread in response to rising COVID numbers.
Any establishment with a state liquor license, including bars and restaurants, must close at 10pm.
Gyms must also close at 10pm.
These new statewide rules will take effect Friday, 10pm.

“If these measures aren’t sufficient to slow the spread, we will turn the valve more and part of that would be reducing the number of people in indoor dining,” Cuomo said according to NBC New York. “If that doesn’t work, if numbers keep going crazy, there are some scientists who believe we should close down. I hope that doesn’t happen.”
Currently, restaurants in the state are allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity indoors with the exception of New York City, where it’s 25 percent.
New York, which was once the epicenter of the pandemic, has been experiencing a worsening increase in cases over the past several weeks after maintaining one of the lowest infection rates in the country for months. The state had a positivity rate of just under 3 percent as of Wednesday.
The state has confirmed more than 536,000 cases and more than 26,000 deaths, according to The Covid Tracking Project.
