Prior to that, on April 1, Californians aged 50 years and older will be eligible to sign up for a vaccine appointment.
The state health department reports that health care workers, long-term care residents, individuals with a high chance of exposure to the virus, mainly in the education, child care, emergency service and food industry, are currently eligible for vaccinations.
Some 16-year-olds and other adults are allowed to be vaccinated as well, but they must be at a high risk due to preexisting conditions or lifestyle.
This follows President Biden’s announcement confirming his administration has surpassed his goal of vaccinating 100 million people in the first 100 days of his presidency.
During a press conference today, he raised the bar to 200 million within the same deadline.
Nationally, however, vaccination rates vary between states; 27.2 percent of California’s population has received one shot, and about half of that population have received a full dose of two shots, at 13.9 percent.
Other states that have achieved higher rates include New Mexico — who leads with 34.5 percent — Oklahoma, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
As on March 25, roughly 2.51 million doses are being administered to Americans daily.
