For many Americans confused by the red tape surrounding access to the COVID-19 vaccine, April 19 is the date that 90 percent of adults will be eligible to receive their first dose, according to President Biden.
“For the vast, vast majority of adults, you won’t have to wait until May 1. You’ll be eligible for your shot on April 19,” Biden said, announcing that the number of pharmacies participating in the federal pharmacy vaccination program is expected to grow from 17,000 locations to 40,000, not including a dozen mass vaccination sites planned across the country.

More than 180 million doses of three FDA-approved vaccines have been distributed in the United States, more than 145 million of which have actually been administered — which only accounts for just 28.6 percent of the total population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. At the same time, cases are surging in several states as parts of the country begin reopening against advice from public health officials.
“I’m reiterating my call for every governor, mayor and local leader to maintain and reinstate the mask mandate,” Biden said. “Please, this is not politics. Reinstate the mandate if you let it down.”
