Former President Trump chided on Monday the Biden administration’s temporary pause of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, while encouraging Americans to get their shots.
Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity he wasn’t sure why reluctance to take the vaccine persists among voters, particularly Republicans, saying he doesn’t “know what it is.” The 45th president additionally scrutinized the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) handling of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine when distribution was paused after six women developed rare blood clots within two weeks of receiving the vaccine.
“What the FDA did with Johnson & Johnson is so stupid,” Trump said.
“That’s the worst thing you could have done from a public relations standpoint. And it probably even affects the other vaccines a little bit,” Trump added.
Data from the CDC shows fewer than 8 million Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses have been administered in the U.S. A majority of inoculations have come from both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

Trump previously criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the matter in a statement reported by the New York Post, calling it “lunacy to delay millions of vaccinations and feed fears among the vax-resistant.”
“Why is the Biden White House letting insanely risk-averse bureaucrats run the show? Just six people out of the nearly 7 million who’ve gotten the Johnson & Johnson vaccine reported blood clots,” the statement said.
Anthony Fauci said he does not believe the pause will last much longer, telling ABC’s This Week, “by Friday, we should have an answer as to where we’re going with it.”
“I would think that we’re not going to go beyond Friday in the extension of this pause.” Fauci added.
