Story at a glance

  • Uber users can now schedule a vaccine appointment at a Walgreens pharmacy in their area and book a ride to the location.
  • The feature is available to all Uber users in the U.S.
  • “We’re committed to helping ensure that transportation is not a barrier to getting vaccinated. We know that by making it easier to get to an appointment, more people will get vaccinated,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said.

Ride-sharing service Uber has rolled out a new feature that lets users schedule a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as a ride to their appointment through its app.

The new feature that went live Wednesday allows people to schedule a vaccine appointment at any Walgreens pharmacy location in their area directly through the Uber app, as well as schedule a ride to and from the pharmacy.

It will do the same for a follow-up appointment at Walgreens for vaccines requiring two shots. The move comes as everyone 16 and older in the U.S. is now eligible to receive the critical vaccine.

The feature is available to all Uber users in the U.S.

“We’re committed to helping ensure that transportation is not a barrier to getting vaccinated. We know that by making it easier to get to an appointment, more people will get vaccinated,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said

“By partnering with Walgreens, our goal is to make getting that shot as easy as booking a ride with Uber.”

The new feature builds on an ongoing partnership between Uber and Walgreens. The two companies joined forces earlier this year to provide free transportation to COVID-19 vaccination appointments for underserved communities and held vaccination clinics in Atlanta; El Paso, Texas; Chicago; Houston and Milwaukee.
