New York City mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced Wednesday that the city will offer in-home vaccination to all city residents.
“Anyone who’s sitting out there and thinking, ‘Wow, I’m ready, but I’d rather the vaccine be done right here in my home,’ go to nyc.gov/homevaccine, fill out the request and we’ll send the vaccinators to your door,” de Blasio said in a briefing.

The Democratic mayor said that more than 9 million vaccine doses have been administered in the city thus far, adding in a Twitter post that the city reported 174 new cases and a test positivity rate of 0.54 percent. There have been seven COVID-19 related deaths in NYC in the last 28 days. Approximately 49 percent of NYC has been fully vaccinated.
“This is really important for folks who are ready, have not yet been vaccinated, but for whom it’s been a challenge to get to a vaccination site or they haven’t been sure,” de Blasio said during the briefing. “That vaccine, that lifesaving vaccine, is now available right at your doorstep.”

De Blasio’s announcement follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Rochelle Walensky’s comment yesterday that vaccine availability and efficacy have made adult deaths from COVID-19 “entirely preventable.”
“This new virus forced too many of our families to accept death as an outcome for too many of our loved ones, but now this should not be the case,” Walensky said.
CDC data shows that 65 percent of eligible U.S. adults have received at least one vaccine dose, while 45.3 percent of the total population has been fully vaccinated.
The White House announced yesterday that the U.S. will likely miss President Biden’s goal to partially vaccinate 70 percent of Americans by July 4.
