On Tuesday, 1,017 deaths were recorded from the coronavirus in the U.S. or roughly 42 deaths per hour, according to a report from the Reuters coronavirus tally.

The tally marks the highest single-day death rate since April.

Coronavirus cases in the U.S. are on the rise amid the spread of variants such as the delta variant.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 51 percent of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated.
