A new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that unvaccinated people are 29.2 times more likely to be hospitalized due to COVID-19 than vaccinated people.
The CDC published the new study on Tuesday amid rising coronavirus case numbers in the United States.
“These infection and hospitalization rate data indicate that authorized vaccines were protective against SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe COVID-19 during a period when transmission of the Delta variant was increasing,” the study states.

On Monday, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine full approval. It was previously available under the FDA’s emergency use authorization.
According to the CDC COVID Data Tracker, only 51.5 percent of the U.S. population is fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
“Do not underestimate the risk and serious consequences of this virus,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said on Tuesday, according to CNBC. “Vaccines are the best tool we have to take charge of this pandemic.”
