As more companies implement vaccination mandates for workers coming back to the office, new data suggests that half of the country supports these measures as the delta variant continues to drive a new surge of cases.
In the latest Associated Press-NORC poll, 50 percent of surveyed adults reported feeling in favor of vaccination requirements and another 52 percent supported requiring employees working in public office spaces to wear face masks.
The careers Americans feel should require vaccinations while on the job include health care workers, teachers, military personnel, government employees and restaurant workers.

This follows announcements from various public and private agencies mandating vaccinations as the vaccination rate in the U.S. stagnates. Officials at the Pentagon were the most recent to mandate vaccinations for federal government employees, announcing military service members were to begin receiving a COVID-19 vaccine “immediately.”
Several states, including New York, California and New Jersey, have also implemented vaccine requirements for various state employees and teachers.
Meanwhile, the private sector has made similar announcements regarding returning personnel to get their two-dose vaccination. Google and Facebook lead the Silicon Valley pack in requiring vaccines for returning employees, while others, like investment firm BlackRock, Citigroup and CVS Health have rolled out similar mandates.
The renewed urgency stems from the circulation of the contagious delta variant across all states driving an uptick in infections and hospitalizations.
