E-commerce titan Amazon is aiming to expand its business operations into in-person medical care, with plans to establish centers in more than 20 U.S. metropolitan areas, Business Insider reports in an exclusive.
Amazon Care, a branch of the company that is already operable and provides health care to Amazon employees and their dependents, is also available to other people outside of company personnel. The company announced in March that its virtual and in-person care is currently available to employees in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, as well as its home state of Washington.
At that point, Amazon said it intended to expand its health care operations nationwide by Summer 2021. Per Insider’s reporting, Amazon Care and its benefits will be available in Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas and Boston in 2021.
This includes telehealth care via the Amazon Care app and in-person care, which allows a medical professional to be dispatched to a patient’s home, along with other benefits.
Amazon representatives told Insider that it doesn’t comment on “rumors or speculation.”
