A Yucaipa, California couple – a nurse and a middle school teacher – died of COVID-19, leaving behind five children, including a newborn baby the couple did not get the chance of naming.
Davy Macias, a 37-year-old Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center nurse, and Daniel Macias, a 39-year-old teacher at Jehue Middle School in Colton, were expecting their fifth child, NBC News reported.

Macias and their children, including her 7, 5, 3, and 2 years old, contracted COVID-19 during a family outing.
Although the children overcame their sicknesses, Davy and Daniel were placed in an intensive care unit shortly after returning from their travels. Davy was 32 weeks pregnant at the time.
On Aug. 18, Davy gave birth via Cesarean section. She was intubated and was not able to meet her daughter. Daniel met his daughter briefly before he was intubated three days after she was born, according to NBC.
“They were the kindest, most amazing people,” Serey said. “They were the ones who got everyone together — for every birthday, every holiday.”
Davy died on Aug. 26. Daniel died two weeks later.
As of now, the child has yet to be named.
It is unclear if Daniel was vaccinated. Davy was unvaccinated because she was pregnant, NBC reports. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it was safe for pregnant people to get the COVID-19 vaccine in August, about two weeks before Davy died.
As Changing America previously reported, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved COVID-19 vaccines for use in pregnant patients, who are more likely to become severely ill if infected.
The surviving Macias children are living with their grandparents, NBC reported.
