Affordable Housing & the American Dream

Watch the highlights from the event:

For many Americans, particularly African Americans and Hispanics, the process of buying a home presents more than the usual challenges. Studies show that the rates of minority homeownership continue to lag behind those of their white counterparts. Lower incomes, higher mortgage rates, student debt and a lack of access to credit are just a few of the obstacles that exist on their journey to own a home.

What can be done to combat the racial inequities that continue to pervade the home buying process? What policies can be put in place to help ensure that every American can have an equal opportunity of owning a home, long considered a central pillar of the American dream?

During National Homeownership Month, The Hill gathered key administration and congressional leaders, housing experts and advocacy groups for a solutions-focused discussion on closing the nation’s growing homeownership gap.
