Rep. John Curtis (R-Utah) said in an interview that aired Monday on “Boundless” that Congress must get into a millennial mindset in order to adapt to a world with 5G technology.
“Millennial is a frame of mind, not an age, and Congress must be millennial,” Curtis told The Hill’s Bob Cusack earlier this month. “We’ve got to figure out how to get a bunch of us old folks to think like millennials. It is so critical.”
The Utah Republican, who is a member of the House Small Business Committee, said the “reason I want to be a millennial is I love the way that they think, and the innovation, and the no boundaries, and all of these things.”
“And we’ve got to get Congress in that mode,” he added.
Top executives from Google and Facebook have testified before Congress over the past year to answer questions about data breaches and foreign interference in domestic politics.
Curtis said lawmakers are often impeded by an embarrassment of not being up to date on technology.
“It’s embarrassing not to understand how something works, and we’ve got to bust through that,” he said. “It’s OK to ask questions. It’s OK to not understand something. And it comes quite naturally to a younger generation.”
