Members of Congress weigh in on the great 4th of July debate: Hot dogs or hamburgers

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill weighed in on whether they preferred hotdogs or hamburgers as Americans prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July on Wednesday.

“Oh, I’m a hamburger guy. Mustard, onions, and pickles,” Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) told Hill.TV’s Molly Hooper.

Himes’ Democratic colleague Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) also said he preferred hamburgers, calling it “an all American food.”

Other lawmakers, including Rep. Mark Walker (R-N.C.) said they preferred hotdogs.

“It’s gotta be a hot dog,” Walker said. “In North Carolina they put slaw on it, so if you don’t like slaw, you gotta remember to take it off.”

Some lawmakers, including Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) opted for healthier choices, such as a salad.

“This Fourth of July, it’s going to be a salad. I’m going to be healthy for once so I can come back here and fight the good fight,” Blumenauer said.
