Alice Marie Johnson talks about her presidential clemency and criminal justice reform

Alice Marie Johnson, who was granted clemency from President Trump last month, discussed the commutation of her prison sentence and criminal justice reform on Thursday on Hill TV’s “Rising.”

Johnson served 21 years of her life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense and money laundering charges before her case was brought to the president’s attention when reality television star Kim Kardashian West visited the White House in May to speak with the president

Johnson told co-hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton that “divine intervention” brought Trump and Kardashian West together in releasing her from prison.

She also told Hill TV that mandatory minimums must be struck down, and that the prison structure should be re-examined.
