Adjusting to new technology the biggest change after prison, Alice Marie Johnson says

Alice Marie Johnson, who was granted clemency by President Trump last month, said adjusting to technology was the biggest change for her after she was released from prison.

“Cellphones are really mini-computers. People are so attached to these cellphones that you dare not walk away and leave your cellphone at home,” Johnson told Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton and Krystal Ball on “Rising.”

“They do a lot of FaceTiming,” she continued. “I’m used to sitting one-on-one in a gathering with friends or visiting. They don’t say ‘can we come by and see you?’ They say ‘well, let’s Facetime,’ ” she said.

Johnson was sentenced to life imprisonment on nonviolent drug and money laundering charges and served 21 years of her sentence before Kim Kardashian West brought Johnson’s case to Trump’s attention in May.

Trump granted Johnson clemency last month.

Johnson, who took her first flight in more than 20 years this week, also noted the changes in air travel.

“I did not know how to go through the terminals, and all of the extra security 22 years ago was not there,” she said.
