House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) offered advice to young people in an interview that aired on Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Tuesday, urging them to be themselves.
“I just want them to be themselves. That’s the best advice I’ve ever received, and it’s the best advice I can give anyone. Be yourself. Know your purpose. Why do you want to do this? What is your ‘why?'” Pelosi told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons in the interview, which took place in April but aired on Tuesday.
“And then that motivation, whether it’s about equality in our community, economic justice, whether it’s protecting the planet … individual liberties, whatever it happens to be, know yourself,” she continued.
“If you have a vision, knowledge, respected judgment, you will connect. People will be drawn to you, and you have to know your power because you are unique. You are the only one like you, and we need you,” she said.
Her comments come as Democrats gear up to attempt to take back the House in November, which could open the door to Pelosi becoming Speaker of the House again.
However, over two dozen Democrats running for House seats have confirmed that they are not planning to back Pelosi.
