Progressive activist Igor Volsky said Monday that the decision by siblings of Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) to endorse his Democratic opponent gives more meaning that race’s November election.
“The congressman who’s in question here is a pretty crazy guy. Let’s not get away from that. I mean, I think he said George Soros orchestrated the Charlottesville attack, and so the fact that they’re speaking out I think adds greater weight to Arizona voters,” Volsky, director of Guns Down America, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
Gosar claimed without evidence last year that billionaire Democratic donor George Soros could have been involved in organizing the white supremacist rally that led to the death of a counter-protester last year in Charlottesville, Va.
Volsky’s comments came after six of Gosar’s nine siblings endorsed the incumbent’s Democratic challenger, David Brill, in a series of ads.
“It would be difficult to see my brother as anything but a racist,” Grace Gosar said in one of the ads.
Gosar hit back at his siblings on Twitter, saying they “are all liberal Democrats who hate President Trump.”
“Not one of my siblings lives in Arizona and my opponent’s policies are out of sync with what Arizona wants and the country needs,” Gosar wrote. “I will not be deterred from fighting for our conservative values regardless of these attacks.”
Gosar has represented Arizona’s 4th Congressional District since 2013 and represented the 1st district from 2011 to 2013. He did not face a primary challenger this year.
