Democrat calls Kavanaugh a ‘frat boy’

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) referred to Brett Kavanaugh as a “frat boy” on Wednesday, citing accounts of the Supreme Court nominee’s time in college and high school.

“To be a Supreme Court justice requires a certain amount of probity and rectitude that is exceptional, and that is not something for a frat boy. Now you can grow out of that possibly, but you don’t lie,” Cohen told Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton and Krystal Ball on “Rising.”

“We’re talking about a sitting D.C. Circuit Court judge who is voted in by all of the senators looking at him and has written 300 opinions and went to Yale Law School,” Sexton interjected. “He’s considered at the top of his legal field. I mean to call him a frat boy, sir, with all due respect, that’s a bit much.”

“He was a frat boy, the way he acted,” Cohen said.

“He was when he was 20 years old,” Sexton said.

“Right, and I think that has something to do with where you are,” Cohen responded.

Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation process has been upended by two sexual assault allegations, dating back to his time in high school and college.

Christine Blasey Ford has accused Kavanaugh of holding her down, groping her and attempting to remove her clothes during a high school party in 1982, while Deborah Ramirez has claimed he exposed himself without her consent during a gathering at Yale University a few years later.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.

He and Ford are set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Ramirez’s lawyer said she is also willing to testify before the committee about the alleged incident.

The Republican-majority committee has scheduled its vote on Kavanaugh for Friday.
