A veteran Democratic senator says that members of the chamber are “waiting for all the facts” from a forthcoming FBI report on sexual assault allegations before deciding how to vote on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.
Asked Wednesday to respond to fellow Sen. Bob Corker’s (R-Tenn.) “sense” that Democrats “overplayed their hand” with the attacks on Kavanaugh, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said “my sense is that the senators are still waiting for all the facts to come in.”
Senate leaders say they anticipate receiving the FBI’s supplemental report on Kavanaugh as early as Wednesday, at which time all senators would be able to view the additional interviews conducted.
But some senators, including Wyden said the FBI supplemental inquiry was not comprehensive enough after it apparently omitted interviews from several key figures in the investigation.
“My view is — where we have heard dueling stories — originally it was limited, then the president said that everything would be considered. My take is now based on the most current information: It is significantly limited — and that’s not right,” Wyden said.
