SNL’s Pete Davidson ‘bordering on irrelevancy,’ says Dem strategist

Democratic strategist Jennifer Holdsworth slammed Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson on Monday after the comedian mocked a GOP congressional candidate for wearing an eye patch after losing his eye in combat in Afghanistan.

“There’s no excuse for it,” Holdsworth, chief revenue officer at DSPolitical, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”

Holdsworth went on to hit the comedian for trying to “stay in the news” following his high-profile breakup with pop star Arianna Grande.

“Pete Davidson is bordering on irrelevancy ever since his breakup. I guess this is a way to stay in the news,” Holdsworth said.

“Right now in Congress, we are at the lowest point of representation of veterans in Congress since World War II, and I think that there’s a lot of veterans, both on the Democratic and Republican side, that are running right now, that should absolutely not have anything about their time of service, and if they were injured, referenced, especially not by a comedy show. I think it’s disgusting,” she said.

Davidson has faced intense backlash since he made the comments Saturday night during a sketch on the show.

Crenshaw is running in Texas’s 2nd Congressional District and was in the U.S. Navy from 2006 to 2016, serving as a Navy SEAL and lieutenant commander.

The congressional candidate responded to the comments in a tweet on Sunday, saying SNL should not use veterans as punchlines.
