Democratic strategist Kristen Hawn said on Tuesday that women must acknowledge how difficult Sheryl Sandberg’s “Lean In” approach is amid criticism from former first lady Michelle Obama.
“I think the Sheryl Sanberg book when that came out, we all had conversations amongst women,” Hawn, a senior adviser at Agenda Global, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“We need to acknowledge how hard this actually is,” she continued.
{mosads}”I think a lot of people, a lot of my friends who do have children and work full-time were like ‘yeah, it’s not always equal with me and my husband,’ ” she said.
Obama said on Saturday that leaning in is not always enough for women who are trying to find a balance between their marriages and careers.
“That whole ‘so you can have it all.’ Nope, not at the same time,” Obama said in Brooklyn while promoting her new book “Becoming.”
“That’s a lie. And it’s not always enough to lean in, because that shit doesn’t work all the time,” she said.
Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg has championed the “lean in” method as a means of achieving women’s empowerment.
She describes the method as actively attempting to be a leader instead of following.
