Dem strategist says Trump will fold during shutdown standoff

Democratic strategist Jennifer Holdsworth said Friday that President Trump will fold if there’s a standoff over a partial government shutdown, despite his repeated demands for border wall funding in any year-end spending deal.

“President Trump will fold,” Holdsworth, chief revenue officer at DSPolitical, told Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton and Jamal Simmons on “Rising.”

“He is a terrible negotiator,” she said. “He has proved that since he got into office.”

Holdsworth’s comments came after Trump in a series of tweets Friday morning blamed Democrats for a potential government shutdown.

“Democrats now own the shutdown!” Trump said, in addition to several other tweets posted a day after the House approved a stopgap funding bill that includes $5.7 billion for Trump’s border wall.

“A Republican president, a Republican Senate, a Republican House, and all over Twitter this morning the president is blaming Democrats for not being able to pass this border wall funding,” Holdsworth said.

Senate Democrats say they will not support the House-passed spending bill. The measure would need almost a dozen Democrats to back it in order to overcome procedural hurdles in the upper chamber.
