Former Planned Parenthood clinic director-turned-abortion opponent Abby Johnson told Hill.TV on Wednesday that the decision to give the new movie “Unplanned” an R rating helped her cause.
“I was a little surprised when we got the R rating. I watch cable TV and I’ve seen PG-13 films, and I know what’s in them, and I know that there’s far more graphic content on just regular TV these days,” Johnson, whom the film is centered around, told hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“It’s almost like the [Motion Picture Association of America] stumbled backwards into the truth by admitting that abortion is violent, that it is an act of violence, and that it is disturbing,” she continued.
“I do think that it was definitely agenda-motivated, but in the end, it ended up working to our favor. We got a lot of press because of it,” she said. “I’m not going to disagree that abortion is R-rated.”
The Hollywood Reporter reported in February that the film received an R rating for “some disturbing/bloody images,” and not for political purposes.
The film tells Johnson’s story of deciding to leave a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas after assisting in an ultrasound-guided abortion.
Johnson went on to found the nonprofit organization And Then There Were None, which supports abortion clinic workers looking to leave the industry.
