Chelsea Handler this week told Hill.TV that she is “optimistic” that the public release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report will hold people accountable for their actions.
“I am optimistic about the future and about everybody being held accountable for all of the things that have happened and gone down,” Handler, a staunch anti-Trump comedian and activist, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons in an interview on Sunday.
But she said the report’s release, now slated for Thursday, is unlikely to be the last chapter in the saga.
“I don’t think we’re anywhere close to it being over,” Handler said, adding that the report creates a sense of uncertainty for many Americans.
“It’s a very difficult time right now if you care about this country and if you care about human decency,” Handler said.
Attorney General William Barr said redactions will be made to conceal details about grand jury material and information pertaining to ongoing investigations, among other things.
House Democrats have are pushing for the release of the full report and vowed to continue investigating Trump on other fronts.
Barr last month released his four-page summary of Mueller’s report, saying the special counsel did not find evidence of collusion with the Russian government during the 2016 election.
But he said Mueller did not make a decision on whether the president obstructed justice.
Trump and his allies nevertheless considered the summary a victory. Trump recently downplayed the importance of the impending release of a redacted version of the report.
“I don’t care about the Mueller report — I’ve been totally exonerated,” he told reporters over the weekend.
