President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani told Hill.TV on Thursday that Trump provided “unprecedented cooperation” in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
“Very often we say he gave unprecedented cooperation for a president. It’s really true,” Giuliani told hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton.
“We just gave them everything, which actually also makes it hard to say it’s some kind of obstruction because they can’t point to anything they didn’t get that they would be entitled to,” he said.
“So without that, it becomes a very theoretical kind of exercise of ‘What was he thinking? What does it mean?’ ” Giuliani added. “The simple fact is nothing was interfered with at all in a tangible way, and [Trump’s] mental state was: ‘I’m being accused of a crime I didn’t commit and I have to assert my innocence.’ “
Attorney General William Barr publicly released Mueller’s long-anticipated report on Thursday morning.
In the report, Mueller detailed the findings of his 22-month investigation into Russia’s election interference in 2016 and possible obstruction of justice by Trump, concluding that there was no evidence of coordination between Trump’s campaign and Moscow. Mueller declined to take a position on whether Trump obstructed justice, though his report described 10 instances that were examined for potential obstruction.
Barr said Thursday that portions of the report were redacted to hide grand jury material, classified information, details about ongoing investigations and information that could implicate the privacy of “peripheral” third parties.
