Progressive strategist Adam Hodge told Hill.TV on Friday that 2020 Democratic contender Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) faces an uphill battle due to his late entrance into the race.
“The challenge is that it’s so late in the game,” Hodge, senior vice president at SKDKnickerbocker, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“Can he get on the debate stage is a real question. Can he raise the money? Can he create a standing in the polls to get him onto the stage and into the debate?” he continued.
“He’s got a message. The question is, can he get out there in enough of an aggressive fashion to get onto the debate stage and take his case to the American public.”
Bennet announced on Thursday that he would be joining the crowded 2020 Democratic field, which now includes more than 20 candidates.
“If we continue to go down the path we’re going, and this isn’t just about President Trump, it’s about the politics that existed before he got there … we’re going to be the first generation of Americans to leave less opportunity, not more, to the next generation,” the Democratic senator told CBS News.
Bennet said in April that he would pursue the presidency if he beat his prostate cancer diagnosis, and has since been declared cancer-free.
