Dem rep says House committee won’t make grand jury statements from Mueller report public

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) said on Wednesday that the House Judiciary Committee will not make any grand jury statements in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russia’s election interference public.

“We do not want to make public any grand jury statements that shouldn’t be made public, and we’re not going to do that,” Raskin, a member of the panel, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”

“Not sure if people trust Congress to keep secrets,” Sexton responded.

“We’ve also offered to go with the Department of Justice to the court to engage in the redaction of the grand jury testimony,” Raskin said.

“The point is, is that this is something that’s always been worked out. It’s something that we can work out, but understand, President Trump has said no more investigation,” he continued.

The interview took place shortly before the White House announced that President Trump would exert executive privilege over the report.

The committee on Wednesday is set to vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for failing to respond to a subpoena for Mueller’s full report and investigative files.

The developments mark a growing rift between the White House and House Democrats, who are investigating various aspects of Trump’s businesses, campaign and administration.
