A former Trump campaign adviser is praising Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) for running a more substantive campaign than her fellow 2020 Democratic presidential contenders.
“She’s actually the only Democrat candidate who’s putting out detailed proposals with some originality,” Jack Kingston, a senior adviser to the 2016 Trump campaign, told Hill.TV on Thursday.
{mosads}Kingston added Warren is also one of the few Democratic contenders who can clearly set herself apart from President Trump.
“Unlike so many of them who are just always, ‘I’m not Trump, I hate Trump, did I tell you I’m not Trump’ — Elizabeth is saying that but she’s also saying here’s my economic plan, and here’s what I would do income inequality and the Green New Deal,” he said.
Warren has seen her political stock rise in recent weeks after having come out with a number of detailed policy proposals.
She has emerged as the preferred candidate among Democratic voters when the issue of electability is taken out of the equation, according to a survey released on Wednesday by the Democratic digital firm Avalanche.
The poll was broken down into two separate questions: Who they would vote for if the primary election were held today, and who they would choose if they had “a magic wand and can make any of the candidates president.”
Former Vice President Joe Biden took the top spot in the first question, getting 29 percent of the vote. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) came in second with 17 percent, while Warren came in third with 16 percent of the vote.
But when Democratic voters were asked to choose who they preferred to automatically become president, 21 percent selected Warren, while 19 percent each tapped Biden and Sanders.
