Michelle Malkin praises Trump’s immigration approach as a ‘net positive’

Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin on Thursday praised President Trump for his approach to immigration and urged him to stay “laser-focused” on the issue.

“When I compare him to every other Republican candidate, a net positive for sure,” Malkin told Hill.TV’s Saagar Enjeti in response to a question over how the president has fared on immigration.

“As long as he’s laser-focused on it and listening to the right people in the West Wing,” she added.

Malkin, like other conservatives, has previously been critical of Trump’s approach to immigration, particularly concerning his long-promised border wall.

The conservative commentator ripped Trump for caving into Democratic demands on border wall funding to avoid a government shutdown in December.

“Well, I’m not going to sugarcoat it. I’m not going to spin it. I wish I could but I can’t. This is a cave. This was a blink,” Malkin told “Fox and Friends” at the time.

Congress, meanwhile, is racing to avoid a second another government shutdown.

Lawmakers have until Oct. 1 to reach an agreement on government funding deal or a short-term spending extension to avert a shutdown, and they have slew of issues to deal with, including gun control and Trump’s border wall.

The border wall continues to be a divisive issue among Democrats and Republicans. The previous showdown over the wall resulted in a record 35-day partial shutdown.
