Gabbard says new allegation against Kavanaugh ‘warrants further investigation’

Presidential contender Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) says lawmakers should look into the latest allegation of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“It warrants further investigation,” Gabbard told Hill.TV during an interview that aired on Wednesday, responding to a recent New York Times report detailing an incident from Kavanaugh’s college years.

“It’s something that we need more information on before we make any decisions about what happens next,” she added.

Gabbard argued that Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing last year was “fast-tracked” by the Trump administration, suggesting that the judge hadn’t been properly vetted in the first place.

“There were questions that were being raised,” she told Hill.TV. “The FBI was not pursing all the leads that they were given.”

Gabbard’s comments come after a bombshell report by the Times over the weekend about a former Yale University classmate who alleged that the now-justice exposed himself at a college party and other students pushed his genitals into the hand of a female student.

The newspaper later issued a correction nothing that friends of the woman involved said she doesn’t recall what happened.

The correction drew widespread criticism of the paper, including from President Trump, who said that Kavanaugh was again being treated unfairly by the media.

In response to the new allegations against Kavanaugh, a number of 2020 Democratic hopefuls have demanded that he be impeached.

Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D), and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg have all said that they would support impeaching Kavanaugh.
