Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson stressed Monday that House Democrats have to continue to move forward on their impeachment inquiry against President Trump, saying his actions have been “perilous” to our democracy.
“The impeachment process is constitutionally dictated and it does have to do with policy,” the author told Hill.TV during an interview on “Rising.”
“But in terms of the impeachment process, I do support it,” she added. “They have to go forward, there’s too much that’s happened that’s too perilous not only to our democracy but possibly to people around the world.”
Williamson first called for an impeachment inquiry in September after reports surfaced that Trump pressured the leader of Ukraine to investigate the Bidens, saying she could no longer be “cautious on the topic.”
House investigators are currently preparing to interview six more witnesses this week, including acting Ambassador William Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat to Ukraine.
Williamson also said that she has no intention of dropping out of the Democratic presidential primary. The author, who has fallen behind other candidates in the polls, failed to qualify for the latest debate in Ohio last week.
In an op-ed penned in The Washington Post, Williamson said all of the candidates delivered a lackluster performance, arguing that the American people deserved “something far more real.”
“We will not defeat a political cult leader with the same old tried but clearly no longer true,” she wrote. “Offering people the stale alternative of political leftovers, prepackaged as bromides with all the vitality and richness of spoiled food, is an inadequate response to the challenge that confronts us.”
Williamson later maintained in her interview with Hill.TV that her comments weren’t meant to be critical of the candidates themselves, but rather of the way the debates are conducted.
“I’m talking about the entire system — the way the moderators throw questions at people and they only have a few seconds to answer,” she said. “Some people feel that they’re set up to attack the others — that to me is not the way American politics should work.”
