Tablet columnist asks, Can Yang unite America?

Wesley Yang, a columnist at Tablet Magazine, suggested that presidential candidate Andrew Yang could unite the country as an Asian American leader.

The columnist told Hill.TV that Andrew Yang could alleviate the racial tensions in the country in a time when the non-black and non-white population is growing.

“Andrew Yang sort of represents in my view a kind of sort of 1.0 vision of what a kind of non-black, non-white leader of this country would be,” he said.

The author of “The Souls of Yellow Folk” also noted the rise of President Trump arose out of fears of a minority population taking over the majority but said in actuality, the U.S. population will consist of a plurality of non-black and non-white people.

Race has been a central topic throughout the 2020 Democratic primary, with several Democrats condemning the Democratic National Committee for its rules on who makes the debate stage. Those conditions led to Andrew Yang being the only candidate of color on the December debate stage.
