Intercept editor: Dems want Pence to take wheel on coronavirus response

The Intercept editor Ryan Grim said Tuesday that some Democrats want Vice President Pence to take control of the response to the coronavirus outbreak.

“You even have plenty of Democrats that say you know what, can Mike Pence please just take the wheel?,” Grim said an interview with The Hill.TV’s “Rising.”

“Let Donald Trump keep running for reelection, just Trump stop, let Pence take the wheel. That’s how much craving there is from the American people just for a basic level of competence and connection to the planet Earth.”

Grim added that he thinks former Vice President Joe Biden, the leading presidential candidate, isn’t doing a good job of convincing the public he would be handing the pandemic more effectively than Trump.

“You watch him and you’re like I think he’d be doing a better job because of the things that I believe, but he’s not convincing me of that on this livestream or anywhere else,” Grim said, adding that Biden hasn’t done many interviews or cable appearances during the outbreak.

“So all I’m left with is my kind of belief that he would be more effective at handling this than Trump, but at some point he’s doing to do something to back up that belief,” he said.

Biden had not spoken on camera for nearly a week before broadcasting a live from his home in Delaware on Monday. The candidate also appeared Tuesday morning on “The View.”

His campaign said it will be ramping up public appearances this week.
